Mapping exercise in all six Provinces

VANGO developed its first Map in 2019 funded by the Save the Children which includes the CBOs and NGOs and the MEGA Map of all CSOs. The initial map highlights all non-state actors/CSOs various sectors and thematic areas within the 6 provinces of Vanuatu. The aim of the Map is to provide better understanding of which organization activities and a visual map identifying where all organizations are operating and what they are doing on the ground to avoid duplication and overlap of non-State actors/CSOs in the ground.

For this year’s mapping exercise VANGO will be focusing updating the map by registering new CSOs as well as capturing the needs and capacity of the CSOs to effectively operate in the community to implement their programs and services.

The Chairman of VANGO William Nasak highlighted, “we want to see more CSOs roles being visible and viable in the communities to provide extended support to where government could not reach”. Mr Nasak further elaborated, CBOs in the community should we viable and resourced so when a disaster hit the country, the community will mobilise resources and be at the forefront leading assistant rather the traditional way of sourcing support and human resources from Vila or internationally.

Government partnership with VANGO through DSSPAC is very important to strengthen coordination in ensuring incoming CSOs aid from donor whether through humanitarian aid assistance or other sectors are addressing the National Sustainable Develop Plan (NSDP). Director of DSPPAC Mr. John Ezra emphasized the importance of good collaboration and working to complement the government services and avoid duplication of services by the CSOs.

The VANGO team will be deployed to provinces this month and report and the update Map of the exercise is expected to be completed by August 2023. VANGO encourage all CSOs in all provinces within the category of International NGOs, National NGOs and Community Based or Faith based operating under the charitable Act to come forward to register their organisations and participate in the mapping exercise.

VANGO would like to acknowledge the partnership and support from the government through the DSSPAC unit.
